The Mediterranean climate on Menorca is characterized by very agreeable and tropical temperatures. It is marked by mild outside temperatures between 16 and 17 degrees Celsius. In hot summers it reaches around 24 degrees in wet winters up to 11 degrees. The most favourable period to enjoy a nice climate is undisputedly May, June and September, as temperatures range from 21 to 26 degrees.
The dry, fresh Tramuntana from the north dominates the Menorcan cultural landscape. It is preferred by the shallow relief. The Tramuntana attains a maximum speed of 130 km/h in the winter months, but becomes a refreshing breeze in midsummer, which is much enjoyed by the locals. A true dream awaits surfers and sailing enthusiasts. Due to Tramuntana, Menorca also gets the nickname "Island of the Wind".
Rainfall average fluctuates between the different localities and months. The average rainfall is 450 mm in the southeast, up to 650 mm in the hinterland and at the north-eastern apex. The most rainy season is measured in autumn with ordinary rainfall, in the month of December the average is 12 days.
Menorca is characterised by a high level of humidity, mainly in winter, averaging around 80% (over the whole year 68%). The consequence is the so called "banyadura", the dew. Given the extreme humidity, it is important to drink enough water.
